Foreign Service Information Management Specialist
Foreign Service Information Management Specialists (IMS) are responsible for the United States Department of State’s Information Resource Management programs and Information Technology (IT) systems world-wide. Information Management Specialists generally spend the majority of their careers assigned to the Department of State’s overseas missions, changing their assignments every two to four years.
Talented Information Management Specialist employees are skilled and experienced in:
- Managing local staff supporting IT programs and perform hands-on duties
- Providing customer and application support
- Supplying knowledge management
- Administering a worldwide telecommunications network to include: computer networks, telephone, radio, and diplomatic pouch and mail programs.
Additionally, Information Management Specialists perform a variety of other duties such as supporting high-level official visits, including the President of the United States, in support of the U.S. foreign policy agenda, serving in temporary duty status at neighboring posts, and working alongside locally employed staff.
