Bariatric General Surgeon Needed
Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii is looking for a Bariatric Surgeon to work full-time under a Personal Services contract in the Department of Surgery. Hours are Monday thru Friday 6:30 am to 4:30 pm excluding Federal Holidays (some weekends). On-Call services are required.
Qualifications: Possess a Board Certification in General Surgery, possess a current license to practice medicine in any US state or the District of Columbia, must have completed a bariatric surgery fellowship and have six months experience at the staff level within the last twelve (12) months and have experience in an academic environment teaching residents & medical students.
Education: Be a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Osteopathy (D.O.) who is board certified in General Surgery. A fellowship in minimally invasive surgery is required. Have completed Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education approved General Surgery Residency prior to the commencement of services under this contract. Possess a valid certificate from the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates or 5th Path (applicable to foreign medical graduate physicians).
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Meet and maintain all licensing/certification requirements to perform as a general surgeon in accordance with requirements of the basic contract to include: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in one of the 50 states in the U.S. or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands to practice medicine or osteopathy. Possesses current federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration for prescribing controlled medical substances. Possesses and maintains a current, unrestricted state/federal DEA number. Life support training. Must possess and maintain current course completion documentation for basic cardiac life support (BLS) through an American Heart Association-approved training program. On-line or any other CPR certification will not be accepted. Advance Cardiac Life Support training required and will not be accepted as a substitute for the BLS certification.
EXPERIENCE: Have sufficient experience to be able to independently perform the following surgical procedures, including but not limited to the following: Appendectomy–open and laparoscopic, Cholecystectomy, Herniorrhaphies (groin, umbilical, incisional), Bowel resections, Breast surgeries (mastectomy, lumpectomy, etc.), Hemorrhoidectomy, Pilonidal cystectomy, Colonoscopy, Laparoscopic/robotic gastric band placement, Laparoscopic/robotic sleeve gastrectomy, Laparoscopic/robotic gastric bypass. Have completed an average of 30 bariatric cases (sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric band, gastric bypass, duodenal switch or revision of any of the above) per year for the previous 3 years. Must show competency in upper endoscopic procedures related to bariatric surgery and its complications through specific training or experience.
