Position: Direct Support Professional - Area Relief II (DSP-AR II)
Location: Marion/Polk Counties - Organization Wide - (Frequent travel to Polk/Marion/Lane/Linn/Benton/Jackson/Josephine Counties)
Type of Position: Full-time 40 hours/week. Scheduled as needed by the openings within the organization. Participate in assigned on-call rotation (every 5 - 7 weeks working up to 20 hrs of OT). Statewide travel assignments, often several days at a time.

Education: High school diploma/GED preferred.
Experience: Must be able to drive agency vehicles and have at least 6 months of Direct Care experience working in the field of I/DD.

As a Direct Support Professional – Area Relief II (DSP-AR II), this person is the BEST OF THE BEST! They are able to walk into any situation, pick up where needed, and ensure that people are supported in a way that promotes a person centered life. They have a diverse skill set, able to support people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who may also need medical or behavioral Health enhanced support.
A primary purpose of the DSP-AR is to assist people who need support to lead self-directed lives and to participate fully in our communities and nation. The DSP-AR is generally utilized when there are long-term openings or there is a need for additional staff. It is the role of the DSP-AR to provide a feeling of reassurance, stability, and support to the team members and people supported. They are role models, mentors, and ambassadors to the team members they work with and people they support.
The DSP-AR II is generally utilized when there have been long term openings or there is a need for additional staff. The DSP-AR II works a varied schedule including Live-In positions, Awake Overnights, and weekends. This position requires that you be able to work a variety of shifts. Including, but not limited to, swings, awake overnights, and live in positions. (See Shift Types tab for shift descriptions)
The DSP-AR II position is a position that is called upon first to cover open shifts to ensure the stability for the person and home. This requires that an DSP-AR II is flexible, willing, and able to travel wherever needed, statewide, to provide services. This expanded support by a DSP-AR II may even include providing on-call coverage in any assigned area’s on-call rotation
Working weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) is a requirement for this position. The working location of your schedule is varied. Travel and lodging is compensated.
You will receive your schedule at least two weeks in advance from your supervisor. You will also need to provide on-call support for one week every four to six weeks.
You will be providing supports in all three of our regions.
Northern Oregon:

– Yamhill County (McMinnville)
– Linn County (Albany, Lebanon, Sweet Home)
– Benton County (Corvallis, Philomath)
Lane County:
– Lane County (Eugene)
Southern Oregon:
– Jackson County (Medford, Central Point)
– Josephine County (Grants Pass, Merlin)
Requirements and Essential Functions
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be insurable by PCL’s insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles.
- Must pass a Criminal History Check and fingerprinting check (if necessary)
- Must pass a pre-hire, reasonable suspicion, post accident, and random drug screening
- Work unsupervised and alone with people supported.
- Responding to emergency and/or crisis situations (including, and not limited to physical intervention).
- Providing or assisting with transportation needs of people assigned to support.
- Provide a stable living environment by promoting and attending to the person’s right to respect and dignity, individual choice and input, and health and safety needs at all times.
- Work a very flexible schedule with the ability to make last minute changes.
- Dependable, reliable, and regular shift work and assigned meeting attendance.
- Become certified and maintain Individual Focus (IF) certification in the Oregon Intervention System (OIS) for the people supported, as assigned.
- Complete all duties related to being a Mandatory Abuse Reporter.
- Complete and maintain all certifications as required by position and PCL.
- Ensure the psychological safety for individuals served, employees, and community members, uphold PCL commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and not participate or condone and/or tolerate prejudicial remarks, actions, slurs, and jokes directed at, or expressed, or any other form of micro-aggression, that are offensive to persons with disabilities, racial minority persons, persons having certain religious preferences or sexual orientation, or gender identity, or persons of a certain national origin or certain familial status or source of income.
- Be literate and capable of following written and oral communications. This includes basic math, writing, and computer skills.
- When needed, wear required PPE which could be N95, KN95, face shield, etc. and willing to provide services in heightened precautions/presence of Covid.
- Frequent travel and work assignments expected throughout the state.
- While on-call, you must be within 30 miles of the designated area (Marion/Polk Counties)
- Be knowledgeable of, promote, model, and adhere to PCL’s Mission and Values, Playbook, Policies and Procedures, including the Team Member Handbook, Ethical Guidelines, as well as the NADSP Code of Ethics.
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to the Oregon Administrative Rules and other rules/regulations that are applicable.
- Act as role models, mentors, and ambassadors to the team members they work with and the people they support.
- Build/maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of teams and people. This includes team members, other PCL personnel, people supported by PCL, along with family members and significant others of people supported.
- Development support such as welcoming people to a new home, training team members when opening a new home (or as otherwise needed), and any other support that is needed.
- Positively engage in the on-call rotation and assigned shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
**Per Oregon Health Authority Rules, PCL has adopted a policy requiring all associates to be fully vaccinated/willing to be vaccinated (while completing Orientation) against COVID-19, subject to limited exemptions based on medical conditions, sincerely held religious beliefs or applicable state laws and regulations.**
