Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is currently the fourth largest of N.C. Community College System’s 58 institutions. The Director of Grant Sponsored Programs is responsible for developing and providing leadership in the strategic planning, budgeting, and development for grants and contracts and key services supporting proposal preparation and submission to external funding sources. Sponsored programs include an array of research, public service, and educationally related projects that are supported by awards from federal, state, municipalities, and public or private corporations. The Director provides overall leadership and support of faculty and staff in securing funds for research, scholarship, and creative activities, including training and development of faculty and staff in all aspects of grantsmanship, and aid in expanding innovative programs. The Director reports to the Senior Vice President of Instruction (SVPI) but is responsible for accessing alternative funding to support the college-at-large.

- In collaboration with college leadership, participates in strategic grant planning necessary to enhance the goals of the college.
- Oversees the review of award notices prior to distribution to ensure acceptability, alignment and compliance with institutional goals and guidelines.
- Designs and implements processes and procedures related to grants management and proposal development.
- Assumes overarching responsibility for grant and contract development and monitors the preparation of funding proposals.
- Reviews grant proposals for accuracy, indirect cost allocation, and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains a process to monitor grant compliance.
- Works with Procurement, Human Resources, Payroll, and Finance staff to process grant-related transactions.
- Prepares and executes accurate and appropriate budgets for a variety of projects.
- Oversees grant close-out activities; reviews all final reports and audits.
- Assists organizational representatives with issues related to sponsored research by serving as liaison with funding agencies to resolve questions or problems.
- Manages grant and contract managers’ grant sponsored program activities and conducts performance appraisals as needed.
- Develops and delivers managerial, faculty and staff training related to proposal development.
- In collaboration with the Instructional Research Office, collects and assembles data on grant and contract activity for the SVPI and assists in analyzing data and providing reports to other college constituencies.

- Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited accredited post-secondary institution.
- Doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited accredited post-secondary institution.
- Three (3) years of successful management experience in grants and contracts.
- Experience in Grant Writing (including Initial, Pre-Award, and Post-Award)
- Experience in higher education grant administration with demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor rules and regulations related to grant and contract compliance.
- Experience in planning and implementing major initiatives supported by grants/contracts.
- Greater than three (3) years of successful management experience in grants and contracts.
- Significant experience as a Program Director/Principal Investigator (PD/PI) of federally-funded grants.
- Significant experience as a reviewer/panelist for federal agencies.
- Ability to set high but realistic goals that stimulate grant-sponsored program growth. Note: It is anticipated that this position will generate a portion of its salary cost through grant funding.
- Sophisticated knowledge of trends and challenges in higher education.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in planning and writing large, complex federal grant applications.
- Demonstrated skill at budget development following funding agency guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with representatives of funding agencies.
- Evidence of excellent technical writing and editing skills.
- Strong initiative, work ethic, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment that values diversity.
- Ability to plan, organize, motivate and manage multiple projects.
