- Manages the day-to-day activities, of the Safety Coordinator, through goal setting and performance tracking.
- Oversees regulatory compliance on all Corporate and site-specific safety program requirements, accident investigation and documentation, OSHA VPP efforts, and safety training.
- Monitors the performance and effectiveness of the plant’s health and safety program in the field and makes program adjustments as necessary to meet performance and improvement objectives.
- Participates with representatives of OSHA, the local fire department and the Corporate Safety Department during formal inspections of plant safety, and issues a report to the monitoring agency to formally document corrective actions taken.
- Schedules annual employee physicals.
- Trains, counsels, and advises personnel on all safety issues through management safety bulletins, memos, e-mails and meetings to establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment.
- Conducts plant inspections for unsafe conditions and hazards, unsafe acts and equipment. Conducts investigations into all near miss accidents, medical incidents and OSHA recordable accidents, and makes recommendations for corrective action.
Position Requirements
- To be considered for this position applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree (ideally in a safety and health, engineering or science-related area) coupled with a minimum of 5 years Health & Safety experience. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) a plus.
- Operations and Maintenance field experience is desired (preferably in energy-from-waste or power plant facilities).
- Working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/programs simultaneously and work well with all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to convey information clearly and effectively, while presenting and training large groups.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Willing to work evenings and weekends on a non-routine basis if needed to support facility operations
- Ability to drive results and influence others in a team oriented environment. Able to stand or sit for sustained periods of time. Able to climb stairs and ladders; Able to lift equipment that can weigh up to 25 pounds on an infrequent basis. May need to wear personal protective equipment including respiratory protection, fall protection, safety boots, protective clothing, hearing protection, and gloves.
