Baseball Head Coach

I. Position Information
Title: Head Coach Baseball
Division/Office: Athletics
Full Time: 12-month position
Classification: Exempt
II. Reporting Relationship(s)
The Director of Athletics supervises this position.
III. Position Summary
Provides leadership and supervision of all coaching duties for Chaminade University's
Baseball Program at practices, games, recruiting, team travel, public relations activities,
and all phases of the program as needed or directed. Head Coach will develop and
execute strategies for recruiting student-athletes to field a highly visible regionally
competitive team; organize and run all aspects of the Baseball program, organizing
practice sessions to enhance the team's performance; supervise staff involved in the
program and oversee the budget.
The person must become familiar with and adhere to Chaminade University policies,
NCAA institutional control and compliance rules, the Pacific West Conference, and NCAA
Division II philosophies. The person must be committed to the pursuit of excellence in
academics and athletics and fosters the holistic development of these student-athletes in
alignment with the mission of Chaminade University and our Marianist values.
IV. Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1. Coaching (50% of work time)
a) Organizes and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
Must also cooperate and communicate with the Softball coaches and athletic
department staff.
b) Directs all aspects, areas, and components of sports team (i.e., assistant coaches,
pitching, batting, team managers, or various individual positions).
c) Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program: in coordination
with the Athletic Director, secure long-term use of both practice and game
facilities appropriate for College baseball and meet the minimum requirements
established by the NCAA and the PacWest Conference. Recommend, where
suitable, cost-effective facilities capital investments to meet the above goals and
requirements.
d) The head coach will manage the baseball program to ensure positive team
dynamics, satisfactory growth, and athletics and academic development of
student-athletes – as measured by retention and graduation rates and
competitive performance of the team.
e) Monitor/evaluate athletes' mental and physical performance. Oversee strength
and conditioning program for team members.
f) In close collaboration and communication with the Athletics Training staff, help
maintain the mental and physical health and well-being of student-athletes.
g) Film breakdown and review with the coaching staff and student-athletes for
game preparation and player development.
h) Responsible for managing the overall team program, facilitating and planning
team meetings, announcements, schedules, and establishing clear
communication lines.
i) Maintain knowledge and rules of NCAA Division II Requirements while
implementing rules in all aspects of program management. Represent the
University on all PacWest Conference sport coaches' teleconferences and related
meetings.
j) Hire, mentor, and retain one part-time and several volunteer assistant coaches.
k) Pass the driving exam and be cleared by the University to drive the vans to
practices, games in Hawaii, and on the road when the team travels.
2. Recruiting (25 % of work time)
a) Evaluate and recruit qualified and diverse student-athletes with a commitment
to academic and athletic success following NCAA rules and regulations through
scouting, video evaluation, events, personal visits, and other electronic
communication means.
b) Coordinates with admissions, academic evaluator, and academic advisor to assist
student-athletes through academic requirements for enrollment and meeting
academic progress towards a degree.
c) Handle all communication aspects with recruits verbally and/or written within
NCAA compliance rules.
d) Manage recruiting budget and athletic aid balance for athletic awards.
e) Attend various ID camps, showcases, and other competitions where prospective
student-athletes can be evaluated and assessed for recruitment.
3. Administrative Duties (20 % of work time)
a) Ensure all compliance reports are completed thoroughly and on time – CARA
reports, practice logs, recruiting logs, and input on the Compliance Assistant
program and other designated programs by the athletics department.
b) Properly manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative duties, including
responsible budget management and donor engagement opportunities, and
proper completion of paperwork for athletics (including expense reports, travel
expenses, and reimbursement reports).
c) Attend all Chaminade athletic department meetings, including required monthly
compliance continuing education sessions.
d) Obtains and maintains necessary and applicable NCAA and other coaching certifications.
e) Responsible for the accountability and maintenance of all team training equipment
(i.e., balls, nets, strength & conditioning equipment) and the team's uniform needs
(game and travel uniforms, practice gear). Manage the team's budget, and arrange
for the design, purchase, and distribution of equipment and uniforms.
f) Continuously liaise with the Athletic Director, athletic department staff, PacWest
Conference coaches, and others regarding scheduling games, training, and other
matters relating to the team's training or match schedules.
4. Other Duties (5% of work time)
a) Assist the Director of Athletics and Sports Information Director in community
engagement projects for all sports programs, including clinics geared towards
middle and elementary-age students. Work on community engagement activities
to get these youngsters and their parents to attend Chaminade games – as many
sports as feasible. Develop programs with officials to provide rules education
programs for fans/students/supporters/families so that this base can better
understand the game's rules.
b) Fulfill administrative duties at home athletic events as scheduled by the Director of Athletics.
c) Assist administrative staff with the additional workload to in-process new and
returning student-athletes from all sports teams at the start of the academic year.
d) Work with the Athletics department staff on the annual fundraising events.
e) Perform other duties as assigned.

V. Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Minimum Experience: Prior collegiate coaching and playing experience required.

● Computer proficiency, i.e., Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and ability to
learn and use University system software.

VII. Physical Requirements: The person must be able to traverse the campus, stoop, bend,
climb stairs, and lift approximately 50 lbs. for equipment and merchandise. Must be
physically able to travel within Hawaii and the US Mainland for required PacWest
Conference matches.
