Community Service Officer
The City of Anamosa, Iowa (pop. 5,450) is accepting applications for a full-time community service officer.
The community service officer is a civilian, non-sworn employee of the Anamosa Police Department that works in coordination with City Hall to perform a variety of specialized support functions and duties.
Regular duties of the community service officer include, but are not limited to enforcing municipal ordinances; ensuring compliance with local building, property, and zoning regulations; providing general (non-emergency) assistance to citizens and motorists; assisting law enforcement officers with special assignments and investigations, and engaging in community outreach initiatives.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalency (college preferred)
- Have and maintain a valid Iowa driver’s license
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle with no history of driving-related infractions or motor vehicle collisions
- Be of good moral character
- Pass an extensive background check (no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history)
- Submit to a drug screening test (No history of drug/alcohol addiction or recreational drug use)
- Pass an employment physical, a vision, and a hearing test
- Excellent communication and public relations skills
- Basic knowledge of new building construction, renovations, plumbing, and HVAC
- Ability to obtain relevant code enforcement certifications
- Ability to obtain first aid/CPR certification
- Available to work flexible hours; including evenings and weekends
- Capable of working for extended periods outdoors in adverse weather or hazardous conditions
- Ability to push, pull, lift, carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to handle confidential information and records
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply federal/state/local laws and regulations; as well as department policies and procedures
